Advanced Precision for Complex Movements

Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADS)

Orthodontics is all about applying forces to move teeth. However, according to Newton's third law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When we pull on one tooth, it pulls back on the anchor tooth. Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADS) are a revolutionary technology that provides a completely stable, immovable anchor point, allowing Dr. Lisa to perform complex tooth movements with unprecedented precision.

Quick, Painless, and Minimally Invasive

The Placement Procedure

The idea of an implant might sound intimidating, but the placement of a TAD is a very quick and minimally invasive procedure. The area is thoroughly numbed with a local anesthetic, so you will feel pressure but no pain. The entire process takes only a few minutes. You may experience mild soreness for a day or two afterward, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers like ibuprofen.

Eliminating Headgear and Surgery

The Benefits of TADS

The use of TADS has revolutionized what is possible in orthodontics. They often eliminate the need for cumbersome external appliances like headgear. In many cases, TADS can be used to correct severe open bites or close large extraction spaces, sometimes even preventing the need for jaw surgery. Once the specific tooth movement is complete, the TAD is easily and painlessly removed in our office.

What exactly are Temporary Anchorage Devices (TADS)?

TADS are tiny, biocompatible titanium mini-implants that are temporarily placed in the jawbone to serve as a completely stable anchor point for moving teeth. They give Dr. Lisa the ability to perform complex tooth movements with exceptional precision.

The placement procedure is quick and minimally invasive. The area is thoroughly numbed with a local anesthetic beforehand, so you will feel pressure but no pain during the procedure. You may experience mild soreness for a day or two afterward, which is easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

TADS are temporary by design. They are only kept in place for the specific phase of treatment where they are needed — typically a few months. Once their job is complete, they are easily and painlessly removed right in our office.
